Commission Estimator
Merion's commission varies with the age and complexity of a debt. This estimator gives you a guide to the likely commission range and your estimated net return — so you can decide whether referring a debt makes financial sense before you pick up the phone.
Debt details
The total outstanding amount owed by the debtor.
How many months since the invoice first became overdue.
How the commission tiers work
Merion's commission rates are tiered by debt age because older debts are statistically harder to recover. Debts under three months old have the highest recovery likelihood and attract the lowest commission rate. As debt ages past 12 months, recovery becomes progressively more difficult and resource-intensive, reflected in a higher commission rate.
Recovery likelihood figures are indicative industry averages — actual recovery rates depend on the debtor's circumstances, the quality of documentation, and other factors specific to your matter.
This is a general, indicative estimate for illustration only — not a quote, and not financial or legal advice. Commission rates are confirmed in writing before any work begins and may vary based on the nature and complexity of the debt.
How commission-only recovery works
Commission-only means no recovery equals no fee. There are no upfront costs, no retainers, and no charges for unsuccessful activity. Merion's fee is a percentage of what is actually collected — aligning our incentives entirely with yours.
Older debts carry higher commission rates because they require more investigative work, more contact attempts, and carry a statistically lower probability of full recovery. A debt referred within 30 days of becoming overdue has a significantly higher recovery likelihood than one aged 12 months or more.
How to read the estimate
The estimator applies indicative commission tiers based on debt age. The range shown reflects a low and high scenario — the actual rate agreed in your engagement letter will fall within or near that range depending on the specific account. Recovery likelihood figures are based on industry benchmarks published by the Australian Institute of Credit Management (AICM) and are not a guarantee.
